A home computer that has gone slow is very rarely a computer that has gone wrong. Four or five years of updates, trial software, browser add-ons and a disk with nothing left on it will bring a perfectly good machine to its knees. Clearing that out is an afternoon’s work and it costs a lot less than a new one.
I am Szabi, and DoverPC is a one-man operation working out of Port Dover. I come to the house, do the work at your own table, and explain what I found in plain English. Port Dover, Simcoe, Delhi, Waterford, Jarvis and Vittoria in person; anywhere else in the country over a secure remote connection.
These are ordinary computer problems, not disasters. Nearly all of them come off a machine in a single visit.
It is not one magic button. Roughly, in order: find out what is actually loading at startup and turn off what does not need to be there. Clear out temporary files and recover the disk space. Check the drive’s health, because a slow computer is occasionally a dying disk and you want to know that before it takes your photographs with it. Apply the security and system updates that matter. Scan properly for malware and remove what is there. Then make sure protection is set up going forward, and show you the two or three habits that keep it clean.
At the end I tell you what I found and what I did. If nothing much was wrong, I will say that as well.
A steady handful of people land here having typed home computer repiar into Google, and I would rather meet you where you actually typed than pretend that never happens. Spelling has nothing to do with whether your computer is worth fixing, and it has nothing to do with how you get treated when I turn up. Ask the question however it comes out.
Flat rate, agreed before I start. Same three packages as the front page:
One hour. Clear the clutter and the pop-up programs, free disk space, quicker startup, basic security check and virus scan. The right choice if the machine is basically healthy and just bogged down.
Two hours, and the one most people want. Everything above plus a thorough system cleanup, the important safety and system updates, proper protection against scams and viruses, and a disk health check.
Three hours, for older or heavily infected machines that need a real fresh start. Includes seven days of follow-up support afterwards.
If you would rather I taught you to keep on top of it yourself, one-on-one training is $95 per hour, one-hour minimum, at your pace and in your own home.
Maintenance is not a subscription and I am not going to sell you one. For most households a proper clean-up once a year keeps a computer usable for years longer than it would otherwise last. If yours is doing something specific and annoying, get that fixed now. If it is just tired, once a year is the honest answer.
I will not tune up a machine that is past helping and hand it back with a bill. If your computer is old enough that the money is better spent on a new one, I will tell you so on the spot, before you have paid me anything. That is not generosity, it is the only way this works in a county this size — I am going to see you at the grocery store.
I am also not a walk-in shop. There is no counter to come to and nothing to drop off. Everything happens at your house or over a remote session.
Same job, different box. A PlayStation or an Xbox that has gone loud, runs hot, shuts itself off mid-game or is thick with dust gets a full strip-down, a proper clean and fresh thermal paste — from $129. PlayStation and Xbox. I do not do controller repairs, disc drives, HDMI ports or board-level soldering.
Fill in the form or call. Tell me roughly what it is doing and how old it is, and I will tell you which of the three it needs — or that it needs nothing.
